Classroom discussions: Tips to prepare your presentation

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Write your name on the topic list I have in class.
Step 2: Visit the following links to know how to organise your presentation effectively:

a- Use this link to prepare your presentation.

b- Read this PowerPoint for further reference.


Step3: Choose an article ( British, US newspapers ) that matches your topic, or a video, or a song,etc...to support your speech. (If you want me to do copies for your classmates, please make sure I get your copies in advance).
Step 4: Timing:  You'll have 5 minutes to talk about your topic. After that you can start the debate. 
Step 5: Write down 3 to 4  follow-up questions below the article.
Step 6: Include a list of the most difficult words in terms of pronunciation or meaning together with its phonetic transcription and definition as shown in the example below:

a. Music An adaptation of a composition.

c. Linguistics A representation of speech sounds in phonetic symbols.

Evaluation. All these aspects will be taken into account:

  • Information relates to the oral report and topic.
  • Appropriate register 
  • Organisation and good use of cohesive devices: logical presentation of ideas following this layout:Introduction, body and conclusion.
  • Range: Vocabulary and structures.
  • Fluency, pronunciation, intonation.
  • Accuracy: Grammar and vocabulary.
